The Salina Symphony season finale will feature Mozart’s majestic final work, the Requiem, on Sunday, May 4, at 4 p.m. at the Stiefel Theatre.
A masterpiece of both solace and intensity reflective of the timeless themes of life, death and redemption, the Requiem will feature the Kansas Wesleyan University (KWU) Philharmonic Choir and the South High New Dawn Singers.
On the first half, the program opens with “Adoration,” a spiritual work by Florence Price featuring principal clarinetist Chris Johnson. For the Salina performance, young virtuoso Lun Li will then bring Joseph Bologne’s remarkable and “Mozartean” Ninth Violin Concerto to life. A true renaissance man of the 18th century, Bologne was an extraordinary black composer neglected for centuries who is finally getting rightful recognition as one of the most accomplished musicians of his time.
